The task and requirements

To respond to the increasing demand for pipelay and offshore construction vessels and to expand and renew its current fleet, the client required a multi-purpose offshore support vessel which meets the highest standards and latest regulations. This multi-purpose vessel will represent the intermediate class of vessels between the smaller and larger offshore vessels with similar tasks.

The concept

The focus of the concept is the exchangeable service of pipe storage systems and the pipe laying system. The primary focus is the flexible pipes which can be stored and transferred in three different ways. The storage of flexible pipes can take place by means of five reels on the main deck or two large carousels below the main deck. A third option for transporting flexible pipes is a large carrousel, positioned on the main deck. Pipe laying will take place by means of a vertical lay system (VLS) which has an operating depth of 3000 metres.

Innovative solutions

The large heave compensated 250-tonne knuckle boom crane enables the vessel to carry out offshore construction operations up to a depth of 3000 metres. Two cursorlaunched work class ROVs which are housed in a hangar, enable the operator to monitor the pipe laying process on the sea bed and provide support during offshore construction activities. A second knuckle boom crane and a provision crane provide deck service.
