The client required a vessel specifically designed to accommodate all requirements of the end-user, one of the oil majors, for a long-term charter. The vessel’s primary role is Diving Support for IRM (inspection, repair and maintenance) works as well as offshore construction in the harsh conditions encountered on the North Sea but also worldwide. The Seven Atlantic is especially designed for operating in environmental conditions which existing tonnage cannot cope with.
The ship has been designed by IHC Merwede in close concert with Subsea 7 and the dive spread manufacturer. It is a fully dynamic positioned diving support, IRM and offshore construction vessel, suitable for worldwide operation. The vessel is designed for saturation and air diving support work and ROV operations. She is the highest class DP vessel capable of operations in a large weather window. In order to enhance the FMEA safety case, the vessel is designed with full triplication of all DP, propulsion and manoeuvring related systems and sub systems.
The integrated saturated diving system is suitable for a total capacity of 24 persons; 8 diving teams, each consisting of 3 men. The maximum diving capacity is 6 persons based on 2 diving bells, each for 3 persons. The dive system, supplied by Divex, is designed for operations up to 350 meter water depth. The vessel will have a total of 5 moonpools, two for the dive bells, 2 for the observation class ROV’s, and one for lowering instruments and tools to the seabed.
Furthermore the vessel will be equipped with twin air dive stations and a well treatment system. In addition the vessel will be capable of carrying a 3000 ton carousel, work class ROVs and a twelve meter long air diving support craft on the aft deck.
The vessel will have a high level of redundancy due to the incorporation of a DP3 system, a 6.6 kV integrated electric power generation system divided over 3 different engine rooms and propulsion by means of three electro-motor driven fixed pitch propellers in azimuthing nozzles aft. Two retractable Azimuth thrusters and one tunnel thruster will be fitted in the forward part of the vessel.
