The task and requirements

Global Marine requires a vessel capable of laying fibre optic cables with a transatlantic range. This vessel must have a large cable storage capacity, excellent sea-keeping properties and redundant cable handling systems. Harsh operating conditions on the Atlantic Ocean such as sea state 6 and a significant wave height of 4 metre define the cable handling limits.

The concept

The yard develops a large and multi functional cable-laying vessel. The hull form closely resembles that of the Toisa Perseus, lengthened by 11.7 m. This provides excellent sea keeping and cable tanks with an extremely high capacity. The vessel can lay 8800 km fibre cable in one go, the distance between the US West Coast and Japan. Due to its dynamic positioning system, the Bold Endeavour operates with great precision. The vessel is also equipped with a plough for trenching and burying cable in shallow waters.

Innovative solutions

C.S. Bold Endeavour is fitted with two cable tanks with a diameter of 16.5 m and another two spare tanks, having a diameter of 6 m. The total fibre cable capacity is well over 5,000 tons. Special attention was paid to the design of the hull to reduce ship motions at the sheaves on the aft ship. The A-frame and the sheltered working deck provide safe and very good working conditions in sea state 5.
