With more than 85% of the world’s telephone, fax and Internet traffic routed via sub sea cables, the ability to respond quickly to cable faults is crucial. The Atlantic Cable Maintenance Agreement, a consortium of several Cable Owners awards a multi-vessel contract to UK based Global Marine Systems. The C.S. Sovereign being the example for a fast but compact cable maintenance ship to cover the Western Atlantic region.
The yard designs a compact version of the C.S. Sovereign, to be utilised for rapid-response cable maintenance and repair works, ROV operations, buoy deployment and cable retrieval in water depths up to 2000 m. The C.S. Atlantic Guardian has a transit speed of approximately 15 knots and a maximum range of 15.000 nm.
Despite her compact design, the Atlantic Guardian carries the technical equipment to perform all maintenance and repair services: Double rotary cable machines, A-frames and special winches for ROV- and plough deployment as well as a centralised control and monitoring system. The special hull form, in combination with a dynamic positioning system and stabilizing tank, provide a stable and comfortable platform for cable repair operations in the North Atlantic.
