The route, the wish

At the late 1990's Brittany Ferries experiences a growth of passenger and freight traffic on the Western Channel routes. A new ferry for the Caen- Portsmouth crossing is required to satisfy existing ro-ro customers and to expand the British tourist traffic to the Normandy and Brittany region. Volume for freight and an attractive proposition to the French and the British public are more important than transit speed.

The concept

With its varied accommodation for 2120 passengers, a freight lane capacity for 132 trailers or alternatively 69 units plus 555 passenger cars, Mont St Michel is the biggest Cross-Channel ferry. The vessel offers 224 luxury cabins and a choice of dining and entertainment opportunities during the 6 hour crossing between Portsmouth and Ouistreham (Caen).

Specific solutions

The interior architecture was designed with the French and British customer's preferences in mind. A mix of salons, bars, an à la carte restaurant, 2 cinema's, reclining seat area's, boutiques, as well as a dedicated drivers' restaurant and teenager area are to suit everyone's taste. A front balcony and open deck spaces with food and beverage outlets further enhance the experience of sea travel. The ro-ro capacity has been maximised. Three unobstructed cargo decks and wide bow and stern ramps ensure a most efficient loading/unloading operation.
